I finally visited this local legend and was not disappointed. The chili was great alone but the fixins are high quality and plentiful, i.e. unlimited sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, onions, jalapeno, etc. I was surprised the fixins were help-yourself and I saw a guy with 1/2 a cup of sour cream and probably 2 cups of cheese on his chili.
The cheeseburger was sensational. The patty was clearly handmade, fresh and incredibly juicy. It was seasoned with just salt and pepper as far as I could tell but was wonderful.

I too am astonished that this place has not been reviewed by anyone else. I was visiting Indy for the first time not knowing anything about C&B and was referred there by a local. Man this place is great!
I tried their cheeseburger and a small bowl of chili. The chili itself is great and is done very well. One great thing about this restaurant is they have a serve-yourself topping bar for the chili. This includes the premium stuff like cheese, sour cream, and onions that I'm used to getting charged extra for at other places.
The burger was also very good. The patty was obviously made free-hand because it was oddly shaped and overlapped the bun in some places. The meat was very moist but greasy, not something I would suggest eating everyday. My guess is the hamburger has a high fat content which is great for the tastebuds but not for looking good with your shirt tucked in.
The service was warm and friendly, and all I can be mad about is that I'm back at home on the westcoast and cannot easily go back for some good food.

Best chili in town; go there during lunch and they have a chili buffet. I know that sounds crazy, but trust the buffet. Reasonable prices.

I know they advertise the chili as award-winning but they should definitely give some respect to the burgers. EASILY THE BEST IN INDY!!!!!

This is one of the best places to get chili and burgers in downtown Indianapolis. My mouth is watering just thinking about their food! An easy walk from anywhere downtown and located near to City Market - this location is almost like stepping back in time with its old wood parlor interior. The service is fast and friendly and the food is great. Fellow staffers here at work love their Tuesday soup and sandwich special - 1/2 a sandwich with a cup of Broccoli Cheese Soup - I am a huge fan of their chili and hamburgers and their waffle fries. A definite must try for anyone in and around Indy.
